TEMPE, Ariz. — The Arizona Cardinals wide receiver room will get a boost ahead of their matchup with the Green Bay Packers as head coach Jonathan Gannon announced that Zay Jones will return to practice this week.
Jones, who signed with the Cardinals in May, was suspended in August for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy.
While the league did not say why Jones was suspended, it likely stems from 2023 when he was arrested for misdemeanor battery in Florida, according to the Associated Press.
In a report announcing Jones' suspension in August, the AP reported that Jones "got into a custody argument with the mother of his child and left fingernail scratches on her neck." The charge against Jones was dropped back in March.
"I'm excited about Zay," Gannon said Monday. "We'll find the right ways to deploy him and he's a playmaker for us. He can play all three positions, he can make plays... I'm excited to get him back."
Gannon added that whether or not Jones plays against the Packers on Sunday depends on his week of practice.
Jones signed a one-year, $2.25 million contract with the Cardinals in May.
The former East Carolina Pirate was drafted in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. He played two full seasons for the Bills before being traded during the 2019 season to the then-Oakland Raiders. Jones moved with the Raiders to Las Vegas and played there for two seasons before signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Jones played for the Jaguars for two years before signing with Arizona.
