Devin Booker dropped 59 points, made NBA history and the Suns still lost

According to ESPN stats, Devin Booker is the third player in league history to score 50 points in a game in which none of his teammates reached at least 10 points.

PHOENIX — To say Devin Booker was on fire in Utah Monday night would be an understatement.

The Phoenix Suns' star guard shined bright dropping 59 points against the Jazz, the second highest scoring game of his career. He previously dropped 70 points against the Boston Celtics in 2017.

Over 50 percent of the Suns' points Monday night came from Booker. Actually, according to ESPN stats, Booker is the third player in league history to drop 50 points in a game in which none of his teammates reached at least 10 points. Deandre Ayton got the closest with nine points.

He's also the very first player in NBA history to score that much in a game that his team lost by 30 or more points.

The Jazz won 125-92.

After his monstrous performance in Utah, the 22-year-old is among some of the NBA's greatest, including Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain, as the only players to score 59-plus points multiple times.

He also joins the likes of Lebron James, Rick Barry and Kyrie Irving as the fourth player with multiple 50-point games before his 23rd birthday, according to ESPN stats.

Booker now holds scoring records in two NBA arenas passing Karl Malone's previous record in Utah Monday night.

But it wasn't just his points scored that were impressive. Booker's performance resulted in the "most efficient" 59-point game in NBA history, according to the team. He finished shooting 55.8 percent from the field, 62.5 percent from three and 94.1 percent from the free throw line.

On a franchise level, Booker is one of the only Suns with multiple 50-point games. The other is Tom Chambers.

Booker's 59-point performance is also the third most points scored by a Suns player in a game behind only Chamber's 60 and his own 70 points, according to the team.

After the loss, head coach Igor Kokoskov said Booker is "the face of the franchise."

Which might also be an understatement.
