TEMPE, Ariz. — The NCAA has announced they have levied penalties and partially ruled on the recruiting violations from the football program at Arizona State University while under Herm Edwards.

In a release sent out Friday, the NCAA said ASU and four former employees of the football program reached an agreement on the identified recruiting violations and the appropriate penalties for those violations.

The Level I recruiting violations include impermissible in-person recruiting contacts during the COVID-19 dead period, recruiting inducements, impermissible tryouts and tampering, the release said.

Penalties for these violations were also shared. They included four years of probation, a fine, vacated wins, scholarship reductions and recruiting restrictions.

Another part of the agreement includes ASU disassociating with an involved booster for five years.

Two more individuals are protesting their involvement in the violations via a written record hearing and the committee will release its full decision after the hearing.

"Arizona State's cooperation throughout the investigation and processing of this case was exemplary, and the cooperation began with the leadership shown by the university president," said Jason Leonard, executive director of athletics compliance at Oklahoma and chief hearing officer for the Committee on Infractions panel. "The school's acceptance of responsibility and decision to self-impose meaningful core penalties is a  model for all schools to follow and is consistent with the expectations of the NCAA's infractions program."

The committee on infractions panel approved the agreement between the school and the NCAA and the committee's final decision on the case — including potential violations and penalties for other involved individuals — is still pending.
