True Crime: Phoenix homicide becoming a cold case

A woman was killed near downtown Phoenix almost a year ago and police are hoping you can help them solve the case.

PHOENIX - Phoenix police need your help to find whoever killed a woman near downtown earlier this year.

It was a quiet afternoon near downtown Phoenix on Jan. 18, 2016. Then police make a shocking find -- a dead woman.

The gruesome discovery was made outside of the Phoenix Rescue Mission near 16th Avenue and Van Buren Street.

That woman was 32-year-old Erin Akers.

Her body was covered with a blanket and police say she did not die from natural causes. They classified her death as a homicide.

Now, almost a year later, this case is going cold. Police still don't know who killed Akers or why. But they're hoping you can help and get up to a thousand dollar reward.

Please contact Silent Witness if you have any information about Erin Akers.
