May 11 will mark one year since Title 42 ended and there are several changes along the border of Mexico and the United States.
Title 42 is a public health order that allowed U.S. officials to turn away migrants who came to the U.S.-Mexico border on the grounds of preventing the spread of COVID-19.
12News journalists traveled to the border to talk to the communities there and find out how their lives have changed since Title 42 ended. Here's what we found out.

The Biden Administration was hopeful that some policy changes would help ease the pressure on border towns and relief agencies when it eased some border restrictions a year ago.
The results have been mixed: The number of migrants attempting to cross is still high, and parts of the border fence at Yuma have been fixed. And the U.S.-Mexico border continues to be the focal point of a contentious debate.

The migrant flow has increased in the area and people requesting asylum are waiting longer for their appointments.
Officials from Nogales, Sonora, are working with Customs and Border Protection and have implemented some changes that benefit all.

How the ease on border restrictions after end of Title 42 has affected rural Arizona counties By Brenda Lepenski
Sobeira Castro, director of emergency management for Santa Cruz County, said that though Title 42 ended on May 11, 2023, the county's emergency management didn't get involved until September 13, 2023.
Between May 11, 2023, and September 12, 2023, Castro said Border Patrol was escorting migrants via bus or shuttle to a location within city boundaries.
Castro said they had "never dealt with any migrant emergencies" but said they were able to set up a table by the border to help provide migrants resources. Pima County ended up helping Santa Cruz County with staffing through an agreement under a federal grant and it has helped them throughout most of the operation.
"Border Patrol is still processing individuals. It's a range of maybe 2- 300 per day," Castro said. "And the only thing that we're currently doing right now is transportation."

Many people still ask if Yuma is safe after Title 42's end. Here's what residents say By Allison Rodriguez
Many Arizona leaders have been calling for more funding from the government to deal with the border crisis.
Now, we’re hearing some relief is coming.
Almost $55 million will be given to Arizona communities. More than $9 million of that will come to Yuma County to World Hunger Yuma. It’s a start, but leaders said there’s a long way to go to get everything back on track.
From October to April, Yuma County is the nation’s leading supplier of leafy greens. There are miles and miles of farms, all the way up to the country’s edge.
Vice chairman of the Yuma County Board of Supervisors Jonathan Lines said safety guidelines are strict and farmers lost lots of money during the height of the border crisis.
“When we have any unauthorized entry into any field, we actually have to plow that under, get rid of it, so that nothing is contaminated,” Lines said.
