Arizona lawmaker resigns after committee finds evidence of 'disorderly behavior'

State Rep. Leezah Sun of the West Valley has resigned from her seat after the House Ethics Committee determined she committed a "pattern of disorderly behavior."

PHOENIX — The Arizona lawmaker accused of threatening to throw someone off a balcony has resigned, officials announced Wednesday.

State Rep. Leezah Sun, D-District 22, resigned from her seat representing the West Valley just one day after the House Ethics Committee released a damning report that accused her of committing a "pattern of disorderly behavior."

Officials in Tolleson had sought an injunction against the first-term lawmaker for aggressive, hostile behavior and making threats – one of which involved threatening to smack someone in the face and throw them off a balcony.

Sun denied making the death threat and claimed she was the victim of an ongoing defamation campaign against her.

But the House Ethics Committee determined that Sun had abused her official position as a representative.

"Committee finds that Representative Sun levied a threat of physical harm and against the life of the city official while acting in her capacity as a member of this House and in doing so committed disorderly behavior," the committee's report states.

The Arizona House Democrats released the following statement in response to Sun's resignation:

"The facts are overwhelmingly clear and speak for themselves. Representative Sun engaged in a pattern of disorderly behavior that damaged the reputation of the House. This is a solemn day, but Representative Sun did what's best for our state and for the integrity of this body."
