Peoria Unified School Dist. Governing Board votes against a four-day school week.

A major Phoenix-area school district has decided against implementing a four-day school week as it struggles to deal with a fiscal crunch.

The Peoria Unified School District board voted unanimously Thursday to instead pursue other cost-saving options to respond to a projected budget shortfall that officials said is due to the new state budget approved by the Legislature and Gov. Doug Ducey.

The district serves approximately 37,000 students. The Coolidge and Apache Junction school districts plan to implement four-day school week in response to their fiscal difficulties.
