Aubrey Fire burns 3,500 acres off Route 66 near Seligman

Originally, the department reported the fire to be around 600-800 acres. Officials said the "large growth in acreage is due to more accurate mapping."

SELIGMAN, Ariz. — Several fires near Seligman have burned about 3,600 acres, according to the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management.

The department took over command Tuesday of what is being called the Aubrey Fire, which is a group of around 12 roadside fires burning near each other, about seven miles northwest of Seligman, just south of Route 66.

The Aubrey Fire combined with two of the larger fires and is now being managed as one incident. Officials said the fire is now 40% contained.

Originally, the department reported the fire to be around 600-800 acres. Officials said the "large growth in acreage is due to more accurate mapping."

Firefighters have stopped the progression of the fire and are now working to put out hotspots, officials with the department said on X. No roads are closed at this time.

At one point in the day, firefighters were fighting about eight fires in the area.
