A Phoenix neighborhood near South Mountain beat out the city itself and other popular Valley places as the best spot to live in the Valley, according to research exploring the best places to live in the United States.
Ahwatukee Foothills topped the list, which was created by Niche.com, a ranking and review website, of the top places to call home in the Valley for 2019.
The list included the cities, towns and neighborhoods that make up the Phoenix metro area and used reviews, survey responses and data gathered from the Department of Education, U.S. Census and FBI, to grade each place.
The overall grade, according to the website, was based on an analysis of several factors including crime, housing costs, jobs and the quality of nearby schools.
Ahwatukee Foothills, which is technically part of Phoenix, received an A+ grade. The website went as far to say the neighborhood is "one of the best places to live in Arizona."
The City of Phoenix, which was listed separately from some of its neighborhoods, barely cracked the top 20 at number 18 on the list.
Chandler, Desert View (neighborhood), Scottsdale, Gilbert, Paradise Valley (neighborhood), Tempe, North Gateway (neighborhood), Paradise Valley (town) and Litchfield Park made up the remaining top 10.
