Stage Fire that caused major I-17 backup near Anthem now 90% contained

The fire remains measured at 259 acres as of Sunday evening, according to officials.

A human-caused brush fire that caused major traffic delays in northern Maricopa County is now 90% contained, officials said Sunday evening. 

The Stage Fire remains measured at 259 acres. 

Crews worked Sunday to mop up hotpots around perimeter. Interior smoke may be visible. Two hand crews and two engines continue to work the fire.

The fire broke out east of the highway between New River and Anthem around 1 p.m. Saturday.

The source of the fire is under investigation.
