Porch pirate caught on camera stealing package in Mesa

It only took six minutes for the uninvited guest to show up and steal the large package off a Mesa woman's doorstep.

MESA, Ariz. - The holiday season might be over, but porch pirates are still hard at work. A Mesa woman is turning to social media hoping someone recognizes the thief caught on camera stealing a big box off her doorstep.

"I was pretty mad," Charlisha Pierson said.

When Pierson left her house Friday morning, she left a large package on her front doorstep for FedEx to pick up. It contained an expensive pressure washer she was returning.

"I left at 8:15 a.m. to go drop off my daughter at school, and our cameras show that she came at 8:21 a.m.," Pierson said.

It only took six minutes for Pierson's uninvited guest to show up. Thankfully, Pierson has her house rigged with security cameras, which captured the porch pirate's every move.

It shows the female suspect walking toward the Pierson's front door. Once she gets there, without thinking twice, she reaches for the package. She struggles at first to pick it up due to its weight but sure enough, she snatches it and takes off.

Pierson's doorbell camera sent her an alert and shortly after that she received a call from FedEx.

"Then we were for sure, we knew that it had been stolen," Pierson said.

Pierson was stunned that these thieves are still hard at work despite the holiday season being over.

She is one of an estimated 23 million Americans who will have a package stolen from their house this year.

"It's kind of sad that anyone has to go and take anyone else's belongings," said Pierson.

The good news for Pierson is she has social media on her side. She posted the images of the suspect to Facebook and her post has racked up thousands of shares. She has also filed a report with the Mesa Police Department.
