Boundaries for using Phoenix's e-scooters, bikes could be changing

The city wants to expand the geographical boundaries for Phoenix's electric scooters and bikes.

PHOENIX — The City of Phoenix is hoping to expand the boundaries of its electric scooter program beyond the perimeter of the downtown area.

After a pilot e-scooter program became permanent earlier this year, Phoenix has begun to study how to expand the geographical boundaries that restrict where these vehicles can travel.

In its agreement with the city, the vendors Lime and Spin are each permitted to deploy up to 1,500 scooters and bikes within the boundaries that stretch between 20th Street and 23rd Avenue.

Now the city's transportation department is exploring options for adding to the vehicle inventory

Phoenix residents have until Nov. 15 to complete an online survey about the e-scooter program. A citywide virtual public meeting will be held on Oct. 23 at 6 p.m.
