PHOENIX - Police in Phoenix were involved in two deadly shootings overnight Sunday just miles apart.

The first incident happened Sunday night near 43rd Avenue and Roosevelt Street.

Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Tommy Thompson said a police taskforce was out to stop late-night street racing. DPS and Phoenix police officers set up near 43rd Avenue and Camelback Road spotted a car driving erratically.

The car took off when police attempted to pull it over, police said. Officers followed the car to a mobile home park near 43rd Avenue and Roosevelt Street.

Once there, police said a female officer pulled behind the suspect's vehicle and gave commands to the suspect.

Police said the suspect rammed the officer's vehicle with his vehicle and fled again. He drove a short distance before taking off on foot in the mobile home park.

According to police, the man pointed a gun at officers during the chase and an officer shot and killed the man.

Police said the 25-year-old suspect died at the scene.

The second incident happened near 39th Avenue and Bell Road.

Phoenix police said officers responded to shots being fired at a home in that area around 2 a.m. Officers arrived and found a man with a gun.

According to Phoenix police, the man was acting aggressive toward the officers. That man was killed in an exchange of gunfire.

The suspect was identified as 20-year-old Bryce Schenkenberg.

Police said when officers entered the home they found a man and woman with gunshot wounds. They were taken to a hospital and are expected to survive.

Police did not say what the relationship was between the man with the gun and the two people found shot inside the home.

The two shootings mark the 65th and 66th officer-involved shootings in Maricopa County, and the 36th and 37th for Phoenix PD this year.
