PHOENIX — One man is dead and another is in the hospital after a deadly crash in Phoenix Monday morning, city police said.

According to early reports, the crash happened at the intersection of 40th Street and Cactus Road around 5:30 a.m.

When officers arrived, they found that one of the two vehicles involved in the crash had rolled over. First responders extricated one of the drivers from his vehicle, but he died on the scene, officials said. That man has been identified as 70-year-old Michael Peczynski.

The second driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but has been stabilized.

Police said their investigation shows Peczynski was driving a silver SUV west on Cactus Road and ran a red light, which is when he collided with a black car that was headed south on 40th Street.

Police are still investigating the crash.
