The suspect was taken to a local hospital in life-threatening injuries and later died after a deputy-involved shooting near Crismon Road and Main Street in Mesa.

PHOENIX — The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office says the suspect in a deputy-involved shooting in Mesa Monday evening has died.

No deputies were injured in the shooting, MCSO said.

MCSO said Monday night they received a call about a man making threats. They said he was armed and in his 30s and making threats. He did not comply and deputies used lethal force. The suspect was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead.

MCSO said the suspect was known to deputies.

The shooting took place in the area of Crismon Road and Main Street in Mesa, according to MCSO.

MCSO would not say Monday night how many deputies fired or how many shots were fired or whether the suspect pointed a weapon at deputies.

The shooting is under investigation as MCSO is working to learn everything that led up to the shooting, a spokesperson said.

It's the 19th officer-involved shooting in Maricopa County so far in 2019 and the third involving MCSO.
