Police are investigating after a Valley man was killed after being hit by a car

Phoenix police said the driver remained at the scene near 12th Avenue and Washington Street and detectives took over the investigation.

PHOENIX — A man died Friday night after being hit by a car in downtown Phoenix, officials said. 

Emergency crews were called to 12th Avenue and Washington Street just after 8 p.m. for reports that a person riding a motorized scooter was hit by a car, according to the Phoenix Police and Fire Departments.

When officers arrived, they found a man with serious injuries who was rushed to the hospital but he did not survive. 

The driver remained at the scene and detectives are taking over the investigation. 

The area will be shut down for an extended time, police said.  

Neither the man who was killed nor the driver who hit him have been identified.
