Husband indicted for murder after wife dies in crash at Goodyear lake

A grand jury has charged the husband with second-degree murder.

GOODYEAR, Ariz — A Maricopa County grand jury has indicted a man with second-degree murder after he allegedly crashed his car into a Goodyear lake and his wife wasn't able to escape the sinking vehicle.

Anthony J. Maiorana, 35, was charged with the Class 1 felony after the grand jury found he allegedly engaged in reckless conduct that "created a grave risk of death," according the defendant's indictment.

Officials said the husband's blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit at the time of the crash near Estrella Parkway and Willis Road. Witnesses reported seeing the couple's vehicle driving at a high rate of speed before it submerged into the lake.

Anthony managed to exit the vehicle but his wife, 35-year-old Megan Maiorana, was later found in the car.

The husband's criminal trial is currently scheduled for September.
