Gilbert's Highland High School wins nationwide contest to produce Disney's Frozen: The Broadway Musical

The show will take the stage Thursday, Nov. 30 through Saturday Dec. 2.

GILBERT, Arizona — A very special Broadway performance will take center stage for the first time ever at an East Valley high school at the end of November and early December. The performance is sure to take the audience on a "journey into the unknown" at Highland High school in Gilbert.

It's a special performance because the students at Highland had to win a nationwide competition to earn the rights to produce it. It’s a part of the United States of Frozen: Love is an Open Door Contest.

Through a tough online application process, one high school in every state was granted the exclusive rights to present Disney’s Frozen – The Broadway Musical this year or in 2024. So Highland's will be the first-ever high school production of the show in Arizona.

The production will feature more than 50 students, grades 9-12 who are involved in the show. Jaci Penton, the student assistant director, said it’s taking a lot of time and dedication to pull off the Frozen performance.

“I am here until 6 every day, then I’ll come in in the mornings also," Penton said. "It takes tons of energy. It takes the patience to work with all of the people you have to, because you have to work with the technical people, all of the actors.”

Tickets are being sold online. Mark your calendars for Thursday Nov. 30 through Saturday Dec 2.
