1-year-old drowns in pool in Gilbert, police say

First responders performed life-saving measures on the child but the child died, Gilbert police said.

GILBERT, Ariz. — A 1-year-old child died after being pulled from a pool at a home in Gilbert Monday, according to officials with the Gilbert Police Department. 

Authorities with Gilbert Fire and Rescue and the Gilbert Police Department responded to a home near Greenfield and Guadalupe roads at 2:30 p.m. Monday for reports of a child drowning. 

Life-saving measures were performed on scene before the child was taken to a nearby hospital where the child died, authorities said. 

Police were told that the child was found inside the pool. Detectives are investigating the circumstances that led to the drowning.
