1 person dead after crash on I-10 in Phoenix

The fatal crash caused heavy delays Monday morning.

PHOENIX - One person is dead after a crash on Interstate 10 Monday morning, according to the Arizona DPS.

This incident initially started as a two-vehicle, non-injury crash on eastbound I-10 at 51st Avenue, according to DPS. The two drivers stopped their vehicles in the number four lane to exchange information, blocking the roadway.

DPS said two additional drivers stopped their vehicles behind the original two vehicles when a box truck traveling eastbound was unable to stop and struck the rear-most vehicle, causing a chain-reaction crash involving all the vehicles.

Along with one fatality, two other people were injured; one seriously and another with a minor injury, according to officials.

The crashed shut down I-10 eastbound at 67th Avenue during morning rush hour. The eastbound lanes reopened around 8 a.m.
