Yoga for Hope Phoenix to Support City of Hope's Natural Therapies Cancer Research Program
Derrick Hall to Accept Award at First and Only Public Event Allowed on Centerfield Green Grass
PHOENIX — Hundreds of yoga practitioners and instructors, vendors and volunteers will join together on Oct. 30 at Chase Field, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks, in support of City of Hope, a leading research and treatment center for cancer and other life-threatening diseases. This is the first and only public event to be allowed on centerfield green grass.
Yoga for Hope is a one-of-a-kind experience. The master yoga class led by top instructors Jen Chiarelli, Desiree Lapree and Anton Mackey and featuring DJ Soloman will take place under the stars from 5:00-9:00pm. A special kids' class will be led by yoga teacher Gina Prunty. The pre- and post-class activities will include a Yoga Fest with samples, shopping, a raffle and giveaways.
Arizona Diamondbacks President and CEO, Derrick Hall, will be awarded the Dave Oliver Award for his leadership in fighting and finding a cure to cancer. Dave Oliver was an inspirational yoga teacher for nearly 30 years and had a direct influence on many, if not most, of the yoga teachers and practitioners in the valley. In November 2014, Dave passed away from cancer but his legacy lives on.
The event will cap months of fundraising by many of the area's yoga studios, which have partnered with City of Hope to offer "donation" classes; the money raised from these classes and at Yoga for Hope itself will benefit City of Hope's Natural Therapies Cancer Research Program. Scientists at City of Hope have found amazing evidence that many natural compounds in foods such as mushrooms
and blueberries have the potential to fight cancer, and they're determined to explore this potential to its fullest.
Participants can sign up in advance or register at the event. However, the registration fee will increase from $30 to $40 for teens and adults the day of the event and from $20 to $25 for children 12 and under. Online registration closes at noon on Oct. 29, so register early.
City of Hope offers a special thanks to our emcee, 12 News anchor Matt Mauro, and to our partners O.N.E. Coconut Water, Chobani, Shamrock Farms Rockin' Refuel, Sprouts Farmers Market, Chipotle, Spiritual Gangster, lululemon athletica, and Official D-Backs Group.
