Congratulations to Christine Marsh for being 2016 Arizona Teacher of the Year. The 11th- and 12th-grade English teacher is from Chaparral High School in Scottsdale.

"I'm stunned. I'm overwhelmed," she said immediately after getting the plaque. "I'm beyond grateful."

Christine was among five finalists of exemplary K-12 teachers. She will serve a year touring the state and nation. Her schedule will be packed in addition to teaching students next year.

"I'm most looking forward to being an advocate on behalf of education," she said, "because we need that. That's why I am glad to be here."

"Her life is definitely going to change," said John-David Bowman who won the 2015 Teacher of the Year Award. "My biggest piece of advice for her is you have to really be open to making as many connections and building as many relationships as possible. It's the number one thing I got out of this year was all of the amazing people that I now can count on."

Marsh will receive $15,000, meet with President Obama and receive a full scholarship to Argosy University for an advanced degree. She will also become a candidate for the national Teacher of the Year Award.
