FLORENCE, Ariz. - The Arizona Department of Corrections is investigating a death of an inmate they believe to be gang-related.
Christopher M. Bendel, 30, died was found unresponsive at an outdoor recreational enclosure with multiple stab wounds. Bendel was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead Saturday morning, Arizona Department of Corrections said.
Investigators have reasonable cause to suspect the homicide is gang-related and multiple inmate-made weapons were recovered at the scene, authorities said.
The investigation is ongoing.
Bendel started serving an 8-year sentence in Arizona state prison for armed robbery in 2011.
