A year after Arizona saw its 5th driest October, it had its 5th wettest

A map of the statewide precipitation ranks posted by the National Weather Service in Phoenix showed Arizona was "much above average" for rainfall in October.

October was an exciting weather month and not just for Phoenix. Most of Arizona saw quite a bit of rain throughout the month thanks largely to remnants of Hurricanes Rosa and Sergio.

October 2018 became the wettest October and nearly the second-wettest month overall on record in Phoenix.

But statewide, October 2018 is also near the top of wettest Octobers.

Last month was Arizona's fifth-wettest October on record, which came just a year after one of its driest. October 2017 was Arizona's fifth driest October on record.

A map of the statewide precipitation ranks posted on Twitter by the National Weather Service in Phoenix showed a comparison between October in 2017 and in 2018.

In 2017, Arizona appears gold on the map as its rainfall was "much below average." In 2018, Arizona appears on the other end of the color scale, turquoise, meaning it was "much above average."

Texas appears to have had a record wet October, while California was "below average."

Utah and New Mexico were similar to Arizona while Nevada and Colorado were "above average" for rainfall in October.
