17-year-old indicted for allegedly murdering Combs High School student

SAN TAN VALLEY, Arizona — The above video aired on a previous broadcast.

A Pinal County grand jury has indicted a 17-year-old boy for allegedly murdering a Combs High School student last month.

Jamiere Jenkins, 17, was fatally shot in a San Tan Valley neighborhood near Gantzel and Ocotillo Roads on Nov. 28. The shooting occurred after a verbal confrontation between Jenkins and another boy, according to the sheriff's office.

Anthony J. Garcia, the suspect accused of shooting Jenkins, has now officially been charged with one count of second-degree murder. Garcia is not being prosecuted in juvenile court.

“We have seen far too many young lives impacted and cut short due to youth violence,” Pinal County Attorney Kent Volkmer said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with those impacted, and it is my sincere hope that our youth begin to appreciate and recognize the inherent value in every human life.”

Jenkins was notably the second Combs High School student to be killed within the span of only one month after Preston Lord died during a Halloween party in Queen Creek.

The sheriff's office has previously said they've not found any evidence connecting the deaths of Jenkins and Lord.
