PHOENIX - Chicanos Por La Causa, Rio Salado College, and Starbucks are joining forces to enroll thousands of Arizonans in GED programs in an ambitious statewide single-day event.
Arizona GED Day will kick off on May 1 in a statewide initiative to help individuals without a high school diploma on a path of lifelong success and opportunity.
Anybody interested in obtaining a GED will be able to walk into any participating Starbucks locations or Mobile GED Day locations, meet with a trained Arizona GED Day volunteer and complete an electronic assessment. They will then be placed on GED track through a local free GED program (youth or adult), Rio Salado College, or a local free-for-service program offered by a nonprofit organization.
"Earning a GED diploma is an important springboard to better wages and job opportunities. Since launch of the new program in January 2014 GED grads are reporting better job satisfaction and data show that they are better prepared for college certificate and degree programs,” said CT Turner, spokesperson for GED Testing Service.
“Among our top priorities is making education accessible and affordable, which is why we have six Valley
locations across Maricopa County offering GED test prep classes,” said Greg Pereira, Rio Salado College dean of instruction and community development.
