Records: Teens crashed Gilbert birthday party to assault juvenile with brass knuckles

Court records reveal new details of a 2022 assault that has resulted in police making two arrests this week.

GILBERT, Ariz. — Two young men were arrested this week after they allegedly crashed a birthday party in Gilbert to help assault a juvenile victim with brass knuckles, court records show.

Gage Garrison, 19, and Cody Kostoryz, 18, are facing felony charges for their alleged involvement in an assault reported at a residence near Higley and Elliot roads on Dec. 17, 2022, Gilbert police said.

Charges have also been submitted to prosecutors against a third teenage suspect who now resides out of state.

The suspects were identified as being part of a group of teens who ambushed a juvenile while he was attending a girl's birthday party.

Court records show the group of suspects brushed past the homeowner and walked onto the property uninvited.

Videos capturing the assault allegedly showed the party-crashers restraining the victim as they took turns punching and kicking him. One of the assailants allegedly used brass knuckles to hurt the juvenile.

The suspects then fled after other party guests attempted to stop the assault, records show.

The victim told investigators he was targeted by the suspects because he had "stood up for a friend at school."

Kostoryz allegedly admitted to being at the party and helping to assault the victim.

Garrison has been connected to other violent assaults investigated by Gilbert police.
