'We’re not done’: Queen Creek police chief updates town on Preston Lord’s murder investigation

It’s been close to two months since Queen Creek Police submitted charges to the county attorney’s office.

QUEEN CREEK, Ariz. — Months have passed since 16-year-old Preston Lord was murdered in late October and the town of Queen Creek made it clear the investigation is still a top priority.

On Wednesday night Police Chief Randy Brice gave what information he could regarding the ongoing investigation.

“We continue to work tirelessly to get to a place where this can go to trial and people get arrested and be held accountable,” Chief Brice said.

In late December his department submitted charges against seven people in the teenager’s death. Still, Chief Brice said they are still asking people with first-hand information on this case to come forward.

“We’re not done, we want to continue to make this a very very strong case.”

Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell echoed the chief’s words during a press conference she held earlier that same day.

“Please, if you are out in the public and you have information don’t think, ‘Well, the police have a video so I don’t need to come forward,’ we need you to come forward if you have information,” Mitchell said.

She also said her office continues to look over close to 2,000 pages of reports and hundreds of videos submitted to them before moving forward with indictments.

On Wednesday, a law firm representing Lord's parents, Nick Lord and Autumn Curiel, released a statement indicating they're continuing to get updates from MCAO about the status of the case.

"The loss of our son is impossible to bear, and we understand that there is work to be done to achieve justice for Preston. We are exercising patience to ensure the best possible outcome and ask members of the community and the media to do the same. We are grateful for the outpouring of support and appreciate the upstanding individuals who have provided information to law enforcement," the statement reads.
