Suspect arrested after security guard finds body in Phoenix parking lot

The man's body was found in the parking lot of a commercial building, police say.

PHOENIX — A suspect has been arrested after a body was found by a security guard in the parking lot of a commercial building earlier this week, the Phoenix Police Department said.

Officers and fire department personnel responded to the scene near the intersection of East Townley and North Central avenues at 3:48 a.m. Tuesday morning.

The Phoenix Police Department identified the victim as 46-year-old Steve Griffin.

The suspect was identified on Thursday as 43-year-old Anthony Romero. 

According to court paperwork, Romero had a valid arrest warrant and was found at a local hospital, where he was in possession of a knife. 

The knife was searched and Griffin's DNA was found on it, according to the paperwork. 

Romero has been charged with second-degree murder and booked into the Maricopa County Jail. 

Police have not released any further information, including a motive.
