Records: Stranger forced woman inside Phoenix residence, assaulted her, then shot at officers

The suspect allegedly forced a woman inside an apartment and assaulted her before police officers arrived.

PHOENIX — Court records reveal new details about the man who was shot by Phoenix police officers on the morning of Feb. 13.

Edward Brown, 35, has been identified as the man who was involved in a police shooting after he allegedly sexually assaulted a woman.

The victim was confronted by the armed suspect in her carport before he forced her inside the residence against her will and assaulted her, records show. The woman told investigators she didn't know the assailant.

When officers arrived at the residence, they gave commands for Brown to exit. The suspect allegedly responded by firing shots from a window toward the officers.

Brown then climbed out the window and attempted to flee before he was shot and taken to the hospital. No officers were injured, police said.

The suspect was recently booked into the Maricopa County jail and is facing several felony charges that could include sexual assault, kidnapping, burglary and aggravated assault.
