Man seen jumping across neighborhood rooftops to try to get away from Phoenix police

Police said the man fled after they tried to pull him over before getting out of his car and running into a nearby backyard.

PHOENIX — A man is in custody after he was seen jumping across rooftops to try to get away from Phoenix police.

The incident began when police tried to pull over a vehicle near 38th Avenue and Broadway Road. The driver, 29-year-old Jamie Chavira, didn't stop and drove away from officers, police said.

Although police didn't give chase, they tracked Chavira's vehicle to 35th Avenue and Roeser Road where Chavira was reportedly seen getting out of the vehicle and jumping into several nearby backyards.

At one point, Chavira was filmed jumping from one rooftop to another before falling into a recycling bin.

A police dog was finally used to arrest Chavira, who was taken to the hospital for treatment for the dog bite he received, officials said.

Chavira was released from the hospital into police and booked into jail. He's facing possible charges of resisting arrest and unlawful flight from a law enforcement officer.
