Reward offered for information on fatal shooting of man standing on sidewalk on Van Buren Street in west Phoenix

Officers responded to a shooting call near Van Buren Street and 40th Avenue Monday night and found a man with a gunshot wound.

PHOENIX — A man was standing on a sidewalk near Van Buren Street and 40th Avenue when a person in a light-colored SUV shot him, according to the Phoenix Police Department. The suspect then drove away and has not been found. 

The victim, who has been identified as Ruben Fierro, died at the scene. 

Police released a video (seen below) of the vehicle involved in the shooting.

Officers responded to the shooting call just after 8 p.m. Monday and found the man with a gunshot wound, officials with the department said. First responders tried to treat the man but were unsuccessful, officials said. 

A reward of $2,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest of the suspect. Police said the vehicle the suspect was driving could be a Tahoe.

Anyone with information is asked to call 480-948-6377 or go to the program's website online to provide a tip. The identity of anyone who submits a tip is kept anonymous.

Calls to Silent Witness are answered 24/7 by a live person and submitted tips are accepted at all times. Submitted tips are then sent to the detective(s) in charge of the specific case. 

Individuals who submit tips that lead to an arrest or indictment in the case can get a reward of up to $1,000.
