PHOENIX — Nearly two months after a Valley man was found dead after a car fire in a Phoenix canal, a pair of brothers have been arrested and charged in connection with his murder.

At about 6:40 a.m. on April 1, Phoenix police officers were called to a car fire in a canal near the intersection of 55th Avenue and Osborn Road.

After the firefighters put the fire out, and the car was pulled out of the canal, investigators found a man dead inside. He was later identified as 26-year-old Jose De Jesus Loeza.

On Saturday, police announced that they have arrested two men in connection with the case: 40-year-old Jose Lomeli and 35-year-old Roberto Lomeli. The two are brothers.

Jose Lomeli has been charged with second-degree murder and Roberto Lomeli has been charged with related felony crimes, but police did not specify what those were.

Police did not release any other information about the arrests.

Loeza's family has set up a GoFundMe to help with funeral expenses. If you would like to donate, click here.

This is a developing story and more details will be added as they are made available.
