Apple Watch sales stats to be released

Tuesday the world should get its first look at official Apple Watch sales statistics and early indications are that not all investors are happy.
A South Korean employee shows the 'Apple Watch' at an Apple shop in Seoul on June 26, 2015. Apple Watch on June 26 arrived in seven more countries including South Korea, Italy, Mexico, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland and Taiwan, after the US tech giant released its first smartwatch in April in nine countries including the United States, China and Japan.

On Tuesday we should get the first official stats on the Apple Watch. They're as anticipated as any recent sales figures in tech but some are questioning whether the company is taking a bite out of the wearables market or wilting with its latest product.

Early indications are that some investors are unhappy with what they anticipate will be slower sales than they had hoped for.

But at least one analyst suggests that whatever Apple announces, it's sure to be better than what any other company can tout when it comes to smart watches.

The Apple watch had the world buzzing when it went on sale earlier this year but since then there have been plenty of experts questioning whether the company known for changing the world through tech innovation had a rare fail on their hands, or wrists in this case.

Ken Colburn of Data Doctors says to expect Apple to be a bit cryptic in their announcement.

That could be a strategy slowing the progression of the device, Colburn believes, because, until accessory manufacturers and app developers know just how popular the Apple Watch is selling, it's tough to convince them to invest time in creating products that could boost growth.

Analysts say the other big aspect for Apple watchers is this is the first real foray into a ground-breaking product in the company's Tim Cook era, so it's being watched with more critical eyes.

"If you compare it to iPhone and iPad, it's going to look like a failure," Colburn said. "If you compare it to other attempts to sell a smart watch, it's going to look like a smashing success because they sold more in the first couple of weeks than most of the other people have sold all last year."
