PHOENIX — After a harrowing jaunt through Phoenix rush hour traffic, a lucky dog is safe and sound.

Arizona Department of Transportation cameras caught an Arizona DPS trooper with a dog on Interstate 17 near Thomas Road Tuesday morning. It appeared the loose pooch was darting in and out of traffic.

ADOT shared a photo of the incident on X (formerly Twitter) around 7:30 a.m. The photo shows the German Shepherd safe in the trooper's "custody."

Traffic was briefly halted in the left lanes as the dog was loaded into a truck by ADOT workers.

Details on the dog's owner or where it was taken weren't immediately known.

We will update this story as more information becomes available.
