Power restored to Eloy & Arizona City following Sunday storms

Over 7,000 APS customers were without power for days following heavy Monsoon weather on Sunday.

ELOY, Ariz. — Power is back for residents in Pinal County as of 10 a.m. Wednesday morning, officials with APS said.

Power had been cut Sunday night by the heavy storm activity downing power lines across the area. Previously, cooling stations and ice distributions had been set up in the area. There is no word on how long those stations will remain in place.

Dry ice was being handed out at Eloy City Hall (595 North C Street) and the AZ City Golf Course (13939 South Cleator Road) until supplies run out.

Those needing to escape the heat can visit the cooling station at Robson Ranch Ballroom (5750 North Robson Boulevard) until 6 p.m., according to the Eloy Fire District.

Toltec Middle School's gymnasium had been turned into an overnight shelter and cooling station.

Some of the outages in Pinal County were not expected to be restored until Wednesday morning, according to the APS Outage Map.

APS said it took longer than normal to restore power due to the severe damage caused by Sunday's storms.

Utility crews were busy removing damaged equipment, digging new holes, setting fresh poles, and restringing wire.

"While it takes time, please know our crews are working day and night to get customers back on," APS wrote in a statement. "We appreciate our customers’ patience and encourage them to monitor our Outage Map and seek out cooling and heat relief resources if necessary."
