Grand Canyon National Park officials confirmed Thursday that search and rescue crews found a body at the bottom of the Grand Canyon, believed to be Sarah Beadle.
Beadle, who is from Fort Worth, Texas was reported missing Tuesday after she failed to arrive for her reservation at the Bright Angel Campground.
According to NPS, Beadle was hiking down the South Kaibab Trail. Her backpack was found near the junction of the South Kaibab Trail and the River Trail.
Ranger Jeff Schwartz said Beadle had been hiking with two children, ages 10 and 11, when one of the kids became ill. She left the children in a shady area, where they were found around 5 p.m. Tuesday and brought to the Phantom Canyon area.
The search effort was ramped up Wednesday morning and the body believed to be Beadle was found around 3 p.m. Wednesday.
According to officials, crews located the body almost a mile from Phantom Ranch near the Black Bridge. She was located in a drainage area on the opposite side of the Colorado River from the South Kaibab Trail.
Schwartz said Beadle was an experienced hiker who had hiked the Grand Canyon before. The trail is 8 miles long and fairly steep.
The children were cared for at Phantom Ranch before being flown out to family members on the South Rim, according to Schwartz.
The investigation is ongoing.
