Red Cross shelters open across Arizona amid huge winter storm

The Red Cross has set up emergency shelters in Kingman, Pine and Payson as Arizona is being blanketed in snow.

PHOENIX — The American Red Cross has opened three emergency shelters in northern Arizona as the state is getting hit with a possibly historic winter storm.

Volunteers offered a warm place to get snacks, cots, and care at shelters in Kingman, the Strawberry-Pine and Payson areas.

As conditions improved late Friday afternoon, the Red Cross closed its Kingman shelter.

The Pine and Payson shelters remain open as ice and possible additional snowfall continue to make travel conditions hazardous.

The Red Cross emergency shelters are located at:

Pine Community Center
3886 North Highway 87 in Pine

Payson High School Gymnasium
301 South McClane in Payson
