Ammo rounds explode in pickup truck fire on I-10

Nobody was injured, and everyone in the pickup got out safely.

PHOENIX — Nobody was injured when ammo rounds exploded after a pickup truck caught fire on eastbound Interstate 10 near Elliot Road Monday night. 

The pickup was carrying about 2,000 rounds in the bed when the flames erupted. 

The vehicle pulled onto the right shoulder, and DPS closed the roadway while the fire was extinguished. Everyone in the vehicle got out safely. 

Troopers cleaned up the area and have opened the roadway, DPS said.
