PHOENIX - Phoenix police say a man is dead after exchanging gunfire with officers Saturday afternoon in south Phoenix.

A Phoenix Police Department spokesperson said officers arrived at a vehicle in a field near Southern and Central avenues around 2 p.m., where they found a man in the driver's seat.

According to police, the man has been identified as Eduardo Andrade, 44.

After speaking with the officers, Andrade showed a gun and started shooting at them, the Phoenix PD spokesperson said.

The officers returned fire and, after the suspect stopped moving, found him unconscious.

Medics arrived and pronounced the man dead.

Police are investigating the scene.

Police said the suspect in an earlier shooting was killed Saturday morning after he pointed a gun at officers following a chase and an unsuccessful carjacking attempt.

No officers were injured in the first shooting either.
