Habitat for Humanity gives one family their American Dream

After fleeing religious persecution in Iraq, the Sarray family now has a home where they can feel safe.

TEMPE, Ariz. - Five deserving families were given the keys to their new town homes in Tempe Saturday.

Habitat for Humanity and the City of Tempe partnered to build the six units in this three-story town home. These homes and their size are the first of their kind.

One special family was overwhelmed with joy at receiving the keys to their first home.

The Sarray family fled Iraq after facing religious persecution and death threats from ISIS.

Three long years after fleeing the country, they've finally found a home.

"Now, we feel relieved," said Nawres Sarray.

The American Dream is finally theirs.

"The other day when we were watching the fireworks, and me and my wife remembered those days. And now we feel safe. No one bothers us," Sarray said. "We really can say, 'God bless America.'"
