Airplane makes emergency landing in desert

The City of Buckeye Fire Department said crews responded around 6 p.m. Saturday to reports of an aircraft down on Wickenburg Road.

BUCKEYE, Ariz. — A pilot was forced to make an emergency landing in the desert north of Tonopah Saturday night, according to authorities.

The City of Buckeye Fire Department said crews responded at around 6 p.m. to reports of an aircraft down on Wickenburg Road.

"The pilot encountered a mechanical failure resulting in a safe emergency landing," Buckeye officials said.

Arizona Fire & Medical Authority said the pilot suffered minor injuries in the incident.

The small plane caught fire but it was quickly contained, according to Buckeye officials.
