Nobody was injured when a small plane crashed at Sedona Oak Creek Airport shortly before 5 this evening, firefighters said.

Crews said the plane had skidded off the south end of the runway.

Firefighters said when they arrived there was smoke coming from overheated landing gear, which had separated from the plane upon impact.

Fire crews cooled the landing gear to keep it from igniting nearby brush.

Firefighters said the aircraft appears to be a Beechcraft Bonanza A36.

All three occupants of the plane were unharmed and declined to be transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation.

Initial reports indicate a door or compartment on the plane had come open when it took off. The pilot was attempting to return to the airport and land when the plane overshot the runway and crashed.
