Where are the mixed girls?
There is a lack of productive discourse around issues of diversity and the role of identity. 22-year-old, Phoenix native Aliya Mateen is a Muslim biracial young woman who gives us her take on what Arizona will look like in the future. We discuss how she identifies as a person, her awareness of her own identity and what this means to her, choice of identity, discrimination and racial ambiguity, and a lack of representation.
