Weekend traffic: I-10 closed in west Phoenix, Pat's Run in Tempe

Here's what you need to know about traffic restrictions and road closures for April 20 to 23.

Here’s what you need to know for this weekend, April 20 to 23. Commuters will deal with a few freeway restrictions and closures this weekend.

First, a reminder that the Interstate 10 westbound on-ramp at 51st Avenue is permanently closed due to the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway construction. Consider using other nearby I-10 westbound on-ramps like 43rd, 59th or 67th avenues.

This weekend the I-10 westbound is closed between 51st and 59th avenues in west Phoenix for the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway construction, Friday 10 p.m. till Monday 5 a.m. The I-10 westbound on-ramps at 35th and 43rd avenues are also closed. I-10 westbound traffic exiting at 51st Avenue can detour on westbound McDowell Road and return to I-10 at 59th Avenue. Please expect heavy traffic and consider alternate routes, including the Loop 101 in the West Valley.

The State Route 51 northbound is narrowed to two lanes between Glendale and Northern avenues for pavement improvements, Saturday 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. The SR 51 northbound on-ramp at Glendale Avenue and northbound off- and on-ramps at Northern Avenue are closed. Please allow extra travel time and consider alternate northbound routes, including Loop 101 or Interstate 17, to avoid traffic delays along SR 51 NB.

I-17 southbound off-ramp at Grant Street west of downtown Phoenix is closed for utility work, Saturday 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please expect lane restrictions along the I-17 southbound frontage road near Grant Street. Please consider using other nearby exits, such as Jefferson St.

The final restriction of the weekend is taking place this Saturday for Pat’s Run in Tempe, from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. Loop 202 eastbound (Red Mountain Freeway) off-ramp at Scottsdale Road is closed and Loop 202 westbound off-ramp at Scottsdale Road is restricted with no access to Scottsdale/Rural Road south of Loop 202. Please consider using alternate routes including Priest Drive or McClintock Dive to University Drive or Loop 101 to University Drive or Broadway Road to access area.
