SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - They have been around for years and have saved thousands of animals. But one Valley animal shelter needs your help to survive.
This is a sad time for not only the folks who run Paws Rescue Group near 64th Street and Thomas Road, but also for almost 40 pets that are not going to be able to stay and get the care they need.
Paws – which stands for pound animals worth saving - is a nonprofit dedicated to saving the lives of as many loving pets as they can from the euthanasia list at the county pound or pets unwanted by their owners.
The organization has been open since February 2011, but sadly, they are now going to be forced to close down due to a lack of funding, if they don’t get the donations they desperately need.
Paws mission is to find every dog and cat a secure, loving lifetime home, and even though they’re shutting down, that mission still remains.
Currently, they’re looking to find furever homes for 32 dogs and 6 cats - many they’ve rescued from local pounds, and some at-risk dogs that have been abandoned, including strays and sometimes owner surrenders.
They’re planning a fundraising wine and cheese event next week to try to generate some cash and to try to get future donors on board. Anyone who is interested in adopting a pet or attending an upcoming wine and cheese fundraiser at the shelter, go to deserttailsshelter.org.
