Five Flagstaff fun favorites to entertain you during forest closures

Parts of Arizona national forests are closed because of high fire danger, but Flagstaff still has plenty to offer.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - You may have had plans to camp or recreate in the cooler High Country this weekend, but some national forest closures are in place because of the threat of wildfires; however, there is still a lot to do around town. Check out some suggestions below!

  1. If you’re up for a challenge and feel like a day of fun in the trees ,you can always head over to the Flagstaff Extreme Adventure and Zipline Course. With more than 70 bridges and dozens of ziplines, it’s a blast for the entire family.
  2. If all the extreme adventuring makes you hungry, downtown Flagstaff has both casual and fine dining. The Hangry food truck and La Vetta Ristorante Italiano will not disappoint.
  3. Flagstaff has a great microbrewery scene, and for some creativity with flavor, head to Dark Sky Brewing Company. You can sample brews with Oreos, waffle cones, Kool-Aid, mint and mole.
  4. If you need some time to digest, or a quick road trip break where you can shop ‘til you drop, check out the city’s historic buildings or learn about space at the Lowell Observatory.
  5. Flagstaff has three local national monuments with views and ancient ruins sure to take your breath away—Sunset Crater Volcano, Wupatki and Walnut Canyon. The Grand Canyon National Park is just about 85 miles, or a 1.5-hour drive, away.
