Recap: Severe thunderstorm warning affects almost 1.6 million people

The Valley saw another round of strong storms Saturday evening with lightning visible all across the area.

PHOENIX β€” Nearly all of Arizona was under a flood watch Saturday. At one point, severe thunderstorm warnings impacted almost 1.6 million people in Maricopa County.

The storm system will start to exit to our east on Sunday, but heavy rain is still forecast for southeastern Arizona.

9:19 p.m. - The severe thunderstorm warning for Phoenix, Mesa, and Glendale has been extended to at least 10 p.m.

9:08 p.m. - Lightning can be seen all across the Phoenix metropolitan area.

8:58 p.m. - More than 1.6 million people are under a severe thunderstorm warning.

8:27 p.m. - More thunderstorm warnings are in effect.

7:56 p.m. - A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for the west Valley. Another storm system is making its way south along I-17.

7:32 p.m. - ADOT is reporting heavy rain along I-17 near Black Canyon City.

7:28 p.m. - NWS expects the storm to reach the Valley around 8 p.m to 8:30 p.m.

4:29 p.m. - Here's the monsoon outlook for the Flagstaff area:

4:20 p.m - The flash flood warning for Maricopa County continues at least until 6 p.m.

3:10 p.m. -The National Weather Service estimates that strong storms will happen later in the evening than previously expected. 

3:04 p.m. - NWS Flagstaff has declared a flash flood warning for parts of Coconio County around the Paria River slot canyon.

2:22 p.m. - A flash flood warning has been announced for areas including Queen Valley and Florence Junction until 6:30 p.m.

1:49 p.m. - A flash flood warning is in place for Vail and Littletown near Tucson until 3:45 p.m.

1:41 p.m. - The flash flood warning for the Miami and Claypool areas has been extended through 4:15 p.m.

This area includes parts of the Telegraph fire burn scar, so flooding may be especially severe in the area. Take caution when outside or driving.

1:15 p.m. - Multiple flash flood warnings are already in place. We can expect even more activity going into the late afternoon and early evening.

12:58 p.m. - 12News Weather Watcher, Diana Luevano Ruiz captured a shot of the clouds building over the Valley this afternoon.

12:39 p.m. - Rain is still coming down in Tucson. Here's a look at the National Weather Service's radar:

12:23 p.m. - Almost two inches of rain have already fallen in the East Valley as flash flood warnings continue for parts of the area including Apache Junction, Gold Canyon, Kings Ranch, and Gold Camp.

11:41 a.m. - A flash flood warning has been announced for Gold Canyon just east of Phoenix. 

That warning is in place until 3:30 p.m.

11:21 a.m. - A flash flood warning has been announced for the Oro Valley area until 2:15 p.m.

10:58 a.m. - Rain on the roadways! 

ADOT cameras have spotted rain coming down near Loop 101 and Warner Road where a crash is blocking the left lanes.

10:04 a.m. - As we brace for flooding across the state, remember: Turn Around, Don't Drown! 

It only takes a few inches of water to wash a vehicle away. So if you see water on the roadway, turn around and find another route.

9:44 a.m. - Small storms are cropping up in the Valley near Sun Lakes.

8:23 a.m. - A flash flood warning has been announced for the area near Saddlebrook until 11:15 a.m.

7:47 a.m. - A flash flood warning has been announced for the area near Willow Canyon until 11:30 a.m.

7:40 a.m. - Crews are working to restore power to parts of Peoria that were impacted by downed power lines. 

While most outages are expected to be resolved by noon today, some residents could be dealing with them until Tuesday according to the APS Outage Map.

7:34 a.m. - A flash flood warning is in place for parts of Pinal County until 8:30 a.m.

6:23 a.m. - Southeast Arizona is waking up to rain this morning with showers in the Tucson area.
