Excessive heat was consuming the Phoenix forecast Thursday as rain hit the High Country.

Wednesday marked, what the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, referred to as the "first day of true monsoon activity."

"Much the same for [Thursday] with hope for a bit more moisture heading into the weekend," NWS Flagstaff tweeted.

The classic monsoon pattern will take shape as we head into the weekend.

Showers and thunderstorms will favor the higher terrain, but there is a slight chance for showers and storms in the Valley.

The main threats include lightning, strong winds and blowing dust.
