Big surprise: Phoenix has some of the most predictable weather in the U.S.

Phoenix meteorologists have it easy compared to the rest of the country.

PHOENIX - A study looking at city climates across the country found — you might want to sit down for this — that Phoenix has some of the most predictable weather in the nation.

The study from FiveThirtyEight compared daily weather patterns against long-term averages. Cities where the daily high temperature deviated from the long-term average had less predictable weather.

According to the study, the high temperature in Phoenix on a typical day won't be more than 5 or 6 degrees off from the long-term.

So you can plan outdoor events in Phoenix months or even years ahead of time and be reasonably sure of what the weather will be, the study said.

It's great news for Arizonans and our snow birds, not so much for people who like to change up their wardrobe every once in a while.

Cities with unpredictable weather tended to be in the Midwest and up north. The cities with the most unpredictable weather were Rapid City, South Dakota; Great Falls, Montana and Houghton, Michigan.

The only cities with more predictable weather than Phoenix were Los Angeles, San Diego and Honolulu — all known for their lovely weather. So it looks like we ended up on the right side of this list.
